This week I found it quite incredible and very eye opening. I had an amazing experience where I got to take what I learned in class and had an intellectual conversation about a woman's young boy who has autism. Our conversation included discussions about his IEP team when he was younger, and what they are doing for him now. They included how people would react to her and her son when she needed to tell someone about his autism, of which has made her very protective with who she chooses to disclose this information with. I was one lucky individual to find out, the most amazing part to me was that i had actually spent the day with this young boy before even finding out about his disabilities and if his mother would have never said anything i would have never had been able to know. Being put in the middle of people who are dealing with these situations first hand sort of gives you a boost that allows you to feel like you can actually do this, that you can become a special education teacher, that you can help these children makes differences in their lives.
As for class this last week I very much enjoyed the conversations that we had in class, ones about accommodations for students and even discussing ADHD. many of the things we conversed about brought new light and understanding. i honestly had no idea that one of ADHDs causes is the environment the child is in, which should have made sense to me a long time ago, but i had barely discovered.
The resource that helped me learn the most this week was simply being able to go over the notes I had taken in class and reviewing the things we had gone over.
I could just be feeling a tad over confident but I definitely feel like after the experienced that i had a few days ago had allowed me to see that im a little more prepared than I thought I was.
I feel like my peers did a really good job with learning this week simply because they helped me understand things i had missed when i was gone. They were very on top of making sure to seek for understanding where they had lacked in class whether it was discussing it out through the table or asking questions during the class discussions.
Something I am studying for my HWD project is about FAS and lately I have realized that along with all these other disability we have started to learn about and to pretend to have that with FAS itself the child has just as much as the responsibility to receive help as does the school does to provide that help for them.
